Following a year of fundraising and the recent auction of its three Pride of Bournemouth Lions, Sovereign Shopping Centre has raised almost £2,500 for Coda Fiddle, a Boscombe based youth music project. The auction also raised over £1,600 for the Rotary Club of Westbourne.

Sovereign Shopping Centre selected Coda Fiddle as its annual charitable cause in recognition of its work providing children in Boscombe with a positive outlet for their creative energy. The Rotary Club of Westbourne, a long standing partner of the Sovereign Shopping Centre, runs multiple community events and activities in the centre throughout the year, including the popular Santa’s Grotto.

The Lions’ auction was led by Julian Sandy, the outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Westbourne, following the donation of the Lions by the Sovereign Shopping Centre. The auction took place at a business networking event on Friday 13th June at the Norfolk Hotel, Bournemouth.

“Coda Fiddle is a tremendous charity. The musical path they open up for our children is really positive. I’ve watched several performances by members of the Coda Fiddle Orchestra and the quality of the music is tremendous. I know that many young people go on to achieve considerable success from the foundation Coda Fiddle has given them,’ said Peter Ruscoe, centre manager at the Sovereign Shopping Centre. “We’re really proud to have been able to raise the amount we have to support their ongoing work with local children.”

Peter continued, “Through their events, the Rotary Club of Westbourne has helped develop a hugely positive, community atmosphere in the Sovereign Centre. It’s been a special privilege to work with Julian while he’s been president, not least with the auction of our Lions, as his energy and commitment was the driving force behind its success.

The Sovereign Shopping Centre has raised £828 for Coda Fiddle over the year through individual donations made in the centre and £1643 from the sale of its three Lions, bringing the total donated to the charity £2,471. The Rotary Club of Westbourne itself received a donation of £1,643 from the proceeds of the Lions’ auction.

The Sovereign Shopping Centre will announce its charitable cause for the coming year at the start of July.
