See your loved one’s name in lights

Bournemouth Hospital Charity and Macmillan Caring Locally are giving you the opportunity to see your loved one’s name lit up in lights on Bournemouth Pier as part of a special new event – ‘Light up the Prom’.

The event involves people buying a tea light to remember or celebrate someone and bringing it to Bournemouth Pier Approach at 7.30pm on Friday 24 October where all the lights will be switched on. This will be followed by a minute silence and short fireworks display.

During the display there will be a special firework which will light up the name of someone’s loved one. The current bid for the ‘Name in Lights’ stands at £500. If you wish to submit a higher bid, please visit or contact the Bournemouth Hospital Charity Office on 01202 704060, based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. All bids need to be made by 3pm on Wednesday 1 October 2014.

Barry Wilson, Events Officer at Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “The current bid of £500 is an incredible amount but we’re hoping for more.

“This is a unique way to remember or celebrate a loved one and whoever wins the bid will know this part of the event is just for them. Those who don’t win it this year can always look at saving and bidding next year.”

All the names of those being celebrated or remembered with lights will be entered into a Book of Light held in the chapels of both the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals.

Lights are £5 each and are available to purchase from the Bournemouth Hospital Charity Office, or Macmillan Caring Locally based at Christchurch Hospital. You can also buy your lights online at . To find out more, call 01202 704060.
