New vintage shop for Pokesdown

By Gerald Gilbert
Another vintage shop has opened its doors recently in the Pokesdown area. Only this one has been described as ‘Eclectic’ and unique.

‘Lil’ vintage’ at 868 Christchurch road sells some vintage clothing but mainly it offers hand refurbished furniture uniquely designed by Lisa Watson, the owner.

She said that it is her first and only shop though she has been selling her wares on the internet.

She said:”I’ve always been interested in doing up bits of furniture.”

Her passion shows in the original designs and unique styles of all the bric-a-brac on display.

Down stairs there are ‘reasonably priced clothes from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s including some for men.

On the ground floor a whole array of artefacts including vintage jewellery, chairs, tables, lamp shades, and kitsch ornaments.

One of the items, a table set was painted pink and had a 1940’s beach theme including female bathers.

Other things include a set of strawberry shaped kitchen knives and her own design of lampshades with a union jack, and a rag effect. Another unusual item was an ols suit case re-made into a foot stool.

Most of them have been rekindled as one of a kind and are for sale to people who like to be individual and unique. Lisa said: “Somebody, who in their home wants a feature piece, a talking point.”

Of all the vintage shops in the area Lisa claims that ‘no one else around here does it.’

For her first shop she said that the future looks promising. She spoke highly of the area and said: “I do think that it’s, hopefully going to take off more than it is now.”

She added: “Speaking to other people who have got shops here, that’s what they said to me as well. It is going to get busy.”

Handmade items may be more expensive but most of the stock is reasonably priced and is said to be affordable to anyone in the area.

She is not frightened off by the accumulation of competition in the area either. She said: “The competition is healthy.”
