British talent Michael Sole to exhibit in Boscombe

Titled Energy, Light and Transparency

MST Gallery in Boscombe is pleased to present a new exhibition by the young British talent Michael Sole. The show will feature 27 works on canvas, each self- contained but displayed as a coherent and powerfully poetic installation.
Titled Energy, Light and Transparency – the exhibition is a series exploring the vibrancy of the sea, sky and forest. Each work stems from a photograph, a paradoxical attempt to freeze the dynamic flux of the ocean or clouds, which Sole then subjects to various processes of transformation, notably the very physical application of paint. Thrown and tilted onto stretched canvas or mounted paper, his process involves working with two active pieces concurrently. The entire show is evidence of this engagement in the moment and efficient use of materials. Michael says ‘The important part of every painting is knowing when to stop, otherwise you lose that moment, when everything comes together, everything is moving in the right direction’. Softness is found in each breathtaking work and evokes the emotional response in the viewer. This body of work is traditional in subject but very contemporary in how the medium is used to express the artist’s vision. Michael Sole does traditional in a very new way, his work ignites discussion and highlights our atavistic relationship to the sea – a site of terror and awe and yet the place from which all life evolved.
Graduating with a BA in Fine Art from Wimbledon College of Art in 2008, Michael has gone on to exhibit in group and solo shows across England and France. In 2010 he was awarded Young Artist of the Year by the Royal Society of Marine Artists for his work exhibited in a group show in the Mall Galleries, London. And this year was in the running for the Threadneedle prize and is a runner up in Evolver Prize 2012. This and the last two years exhibition at GX Gallery in London was a real success, selling out completely by the end of each show and winning the trust of some international collectors.
The exhibition opens with a private view on Friday 14th of June with a wine reception which the artist will attend starting from 7:30pm. The public are invited to the opening on Friday and to the exhibit during its run from June 15th until the 25th.
