Bicycle thefts down in Boscombe and Bournemouth

Cycle thefts down in 2014

There has been a consistent drop in theft of cycles in Bournemouth following targeted crime prevention campaigns aimed at cyclists – urging them to secure their bikes when they leave them unattended.

Bike tagging and property marking events have also taken place in the borough in conjunction with Bournemouth Borough Council.

Central Bournemouth Neighbourhood Inspector Heather Dixey said: “We were dealing with a number of cases of bikes being stolen when they had been left unlocked outside shops in the town centre. Posters were put up around the town reminding cyclists to lock their bikes.

“We promoted the use of D-locks as the normal chain locks are easy to cut. Dorset Police also linked up with Bournemouth University to promote our crime prevention advice and sent out prevention reminders on Dorset Alert.”
